The Core Difference: Precision vs. Coverage

When placing a 4D bet, one of the key decisions you'll make is whether to go with a straight (direct) bet or an iBet (system/permutation bet). Both methods use the same four-digit number, but they differ significantly in how that number is played — and how prizes are calculated.

Understanding both options helps you align your bet type with your goals and budget.

What Is a Straight Bet?

A straight bet is the simplest form of 4D play. You pick a four-digit number — say, 5823 — and you win only if the drawn number is exactly 5823 in that precise order. There's no flexibility; it's an all-or-nothing match on your exact number.

Pros of Straight Betting:

  • Higher prize payout per RM1 staked if you win.
  • Simple to understand and place.
  • Works well if you have high confidence in a specific number arrangement.

Cons of Straight Betting:

  • Only one possible winning arrangement out of 10,000 possible numbers.
  • No coverage if your digits are right but in the wrong order.

What Is iBet?

iBet (also called System Bet or Permutation Bet) takes your chosen four digits and automatically plays all possible arrangements of those digits. So if you choose 5823, iBet also plays 5832, 5283, 5238, 5382, 5328, 8523, and all other permutations.

The number of permutations depends on how many unique digits your number contains:

Digit Uniqueness Example No. of Permutations
All 4 digits unique 1234 24
One pair repeated 1123 12
Two pairs repeated 1122 6
One digit repeated 3x 1112 4
All digits same 1111 1 (no benefit)

How Does iBet Affect Payouts?

With iBet, your stake is effectively divided across all permutations. If you bet RM1 on an iBet with 24 permutations, each permutation is worth approximately RM0.042. If one of those permutations wins the 1st prize, your prize is roughly 1/24th of the standard 1st prize payout.

In exchange, you have 24 times the chance of winning compared to a single straight bet on one arrangement.

When Does iBet Make More Sense?

iBet tends to be a better fit when:

  • You believe strongly in a set of digits but are unsure of their order.
  • You're using a number with fewer repeated digits (more unique digits = more coverage).
  • You prefer broader chances over a large single win.
  • You're a more casual player who values "hitting something" over maximising a single jackpot.

When Does a Straight Bet Make More Sense?

Straight bets work better when:

  • You have a specific number you want to play (e.g., a plate number, meaningful date).
  • You're aiming for a maximum payout and are comfortable with lower odds.
  • Your chosen number has many repeated digits (fewer permutations = less iBet advantage).

The Bottom Line

Neither method is universally "better" — they serve different purposes. iBet offers breadth; a straight bet offers depth of payout. Many experienced players use a mix of both: straight bets on their most confident numbers, and iBets on numbers where they're less certain about digit order.

As always, manage your total spend across all bet types and treat 4D as a form of entertainment with a fixed budget. Smart betting decisions are about understanding what you're buying — not about finding a secret to beat the odds.
